WHY WE EXIST!

I’ve always loved Math since my elementary days to college. I received my BSBA with a concentration in Accounting over a decade (or so) ago. I have always held positions that required constant application of math skills (Bank Manager, Accountant, Tax Preparation, and so on). I’ve always wanted to be a teacher but I instead pursued a business degree. It wasn’t as fulfilling so I decided I would pursue becoming a Math teacher (let’s combine my passion for teaching with my love of math). I became a Secondary Math Teacher.

Math can be intimidating for children and adults. Many adults have anxiety when it comes to math due to unpleasant experiences in grade school. This is where I come in. I’m passionate about making students feel successful in math class regardless of their own perceived inabilities. I have a child that struggled in Math so I understand from a parent’s perspective. I’ve taught students that received Special Education services in an inclusion setting. I do not claim to bring your child’s grade from an “F” to an “A” in 4 weeks (unrealistic). Instead, I will build their academic confidence in math; that they too can become successful in math which translates over into a boost in their grades.  Also, I will “fill” in the gaps. Most children’s struggles in math are due to foundational skills not learned or not properly taught. As I always state, “Math is like a building block that starts as early as pre-school and continues to build on its-self; all the way up to secondary and college. Every concept is important for the next one.”

Most students complain about their teachers not spending enough time explaining concepts (to be fair, it’s challenging to teach at all different levels at one time in the classroom; so be compassionate to those teachers who are really trying). Most parents are frustrated, and with this “new” math, they are struggling with helping their children. So most parents look for a private tutor.

Hence, why Math House Rocks was created! I am here to serve my military community (I am a military spouse) by providing tutoring services. It can be hard moving from state to state, country to country hoping to maintain normalcy and consistency in education.

Math House Rocks provides one on one tutoring, group tutoring, virtual tutoring in the following:

  • Middle School Math
  • Algebra (Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2)
  • Geometry
  • ACT PREP
  • College-Level Algebra

*With permission from parents, I collaborate with my student’s teachers (those who are willing) by communicating their goals and the various strategies we are using during our sessions.  LOCAL IN-PERSON SESSIONS ONLY
